Have you ever dreamt of leaping back in time and living for a few days in an old noble home, maybe a hunting manor, surrounded by farmlands with fields of tobacco, vines, sunflowers and olive groves.
No, this is not a dream but reality. The Villa di Piazzano is not an ordinary hotel but an “Historical Residence” dating back to 1464.
The Hotel Villa di Piazzano is a manor house of the 1400s located in the countryside just outside the town of Cortona, a town on the border between Tuscany and Umbria made famous by the American writer Frances Mayes with her book and later the movie, Under the Tuscan Sun.
The Villa was acquired some years ago by an Italian-Australian family with a tradition in hotels, the Wimpole family, which carefully transformed the Villa into an exclusive hotel, with that warm and intimate atmosphere that only a family run property can provide.
The Villa is surrounded by a garden of 1 hectare, with a beautiful formal Italian garden, a spectacular entrance with a cypress lined driveway, a large swimming pool and private parking for guests. The menu of the restaurant changes with the seasons and offers dishes which are traditional of this region, based on local and genuine products. The hotel also has a bar facility which is transferred under the shaded terrace.
The hotel is located in the small area of Piazzano, just about a 15 minutes car ride from the town of Cortona.
The restaurant "L' Antica Casina di Caccia" offers simple and genuine specialties from the Tuscan and Italian cuisine. In the summer time, from May to September, light lunches and dinners are served on the terrace above the pool. In the cooler months, meals are served in the dining room. During the summer months a number of special events are also organized such as: dining with the tenors, evening jazz and informal barbecues. Dinner on evenings with a special event will have a fixed menu
A special feature of the Villa di Piazzano is its very ancient wine cellar, dating back to the 1400s. The ancient building techniques used to construct the underground wine cellar ensure a constant temperature of 16 degrees Celsius, thus providing a perfect micro climate for some of the finest Italian wines.
At the hotel At the Villa you can learn all the secrets for preparing a typical Italian gourmet dinner during a Cooking Class. The classes are for a minimum of 2 people, can last one or more days, according to the requirements of the “student”. The lesson starts at 11.30 am and finishes around 1 o’clock with a tasty lunch served in the garden.
The Villa offers 17 guest rooms of various categories and 1 garden cottage
The categories vary according to the size of the room and bathroom, views, furnishings and in-room amenities. The deluxe rooms and jr. suites also have a sofa and seating area in the room. As this is an ancient manor house, every room is different and so the standardization of the room categories is not always so apparent as in a modern hotel.
